Spring has arrived

A few days ago I went to a local park nearby to check out the status of spring. There was this one tree with white blossoms which caught my attention. At the same time dark clouds covered the sky which made the tree to stand out of the darker background. Happy days. Reinhold

Most of the ice is gone…

Our frozen lake after 2 days of temperatures above the freezing point. Most of the ice is gone. We had a wonderful period of a few weeks with sunshine and cold weather and wind from the east. I used my Fuji X100 for all the images I captured because my Fuji X-T1 is in service. For nearly 5 weeks now. It is still in the shipment phase. For 1 week now. Left England and is on its way to Germany. Hopefully I will get my camera back before summer. 🙂 Happy days. Reinhold

Sweet 4

I remember I promised this. Model shooting details from last year.
Last year I did my first shooting of 14 young Golden Retriever. The period to sell the images to their new owners is over now. These are my sweet 4 of the group. I hope I will have a second shoot this year. So much fun! Happy days. Reinhold

Winter’s Moor

Winter has arrived. First snow in the Dänikhorster Moor. It is usually a very quiet place. The snow has further reduced the sounds of animals and birds. I only heard the barking of a fox in the distance. Hopefully the snow will stay until tomorrow morning. I am planning to visit the Fintlandsmoor and the moor lakes to capture some snowy wetlands early in the morning. Fingers crossed! Happy days. Reinhold

We had terrible weather. For weeks and weeks. Basically no autumn. Mostly cloudy and rainy. I decided to take a walk in the moor nearby. May be the wetlands have changed due to the increased water level. I was quiet early. It was pitch black when I arrived there. No sound. I looked towards the sunrise and suddenly some of the clouds moved away. I set up my tripod, mounted my camera and opened my rucksack for the filter holder and filters. And then I watched the evolution of the sunrise.
Mother nature is just awesome. On my way to the moor I heard the news in the radio. I thought the world is going down the tubes. But this sunrise convinced me. There is a greater power here on earth. And it has so much force. The force of quietness and beauty.
May this force be with you. Happy days. Reinhold

The National Park Wadden Sea

World Heritage and National Park. The coastline of North Germany. Wadden Sea or Wattenmeer. No big waves, a flat coastline, no rocks… but open space. As a photographer you always look for some interest in the foreground. So I am happy to find something like a fence. A fence into the sea? Now you have to know some additional facts to understand this. At our coastline, we have separate beaches for people with dogs and with no dogs. Sometimes the beaches are separated by a fence. Because of the flat coast line it would be easy to walk around the fence. And here is the solution. The fence is built into the sea. That makes it difficult to walk around the fence without getting your feet wet.
No… we have no other problems over here.
Hope you will still enjoy my image.
It is a long exposure using a LEE big stopper and a ND hard grad (0.6 / 2 stops) filter.

PS: I posted a similar image a while ago in color.

Happy days,

A magic purple Glow in the Fintlandsmoor in the North of Germany. One of my favorite nature resorts which I visit on a regular basis. It is a remote location. Very quiet and peaceful. A place full of light and energy. Happy days. Reinhold

Vivid Dream

I’m fascinated by intimate landscapes. These are the subjects that many people might simply walk past. The PSD file has a dimension of 10,000 x 6,000 px and is optimized for large scale printing.

This is image #2 of 4 of my Patterns series.

Stepping on new ground…

… after 1 week and weekend full of new photograhy projects I first want to apologize for no or late replies to your comments and for no feedback to your recent posts.
Taking photographs of horses and dogs fills up a Lightroom folder very quickly. 500 images per shoot are the default, not the exception. Reviewing these images, selecting the “good” ones and doing basis adjustments in LR turns long days into long nights. The hit ratio at day 1: 50%, day 2: 70% day 3: 40% (bad weather) and finally the weekend: 80%. Lesson learned:  a Fuji X-T1 can do the job, especially the new focus features helped a lot. I rented a Fuji 50-140 2.8 lens (70-200 2.8 FF equivalent). Can you do the job without such a lens? NO! Definitely NO! Shutter speeds of 1000-2000 crank up the ISO very quickly to 3600 or 6400. You get a lot of noise. At the end I used the “Manual” mode only. Set the aperture, set the shutter speed and than set the ISO. If you see an image in your electronic view finder it is time to think about single, area or tracking focus and single or burst mode. Continuous focusing is a must. On day 1 I missed nearly every chance of an image. I had to learn very quickly. Another observation: if I want to be successful (means earning money) in this area I need a Canon D1 X II oder Nikon D5 + a 70-200 2.8 prime lens. Now we are talking about 8 to 10K €. It is the only time where gear matters. But so far I am very proud of my Fuji X-T1. Smiles. Reinhold
