Image 16/20 – Earth… we have no right to destroy the beauty of Earth. It is given to us, our children and our children’s children. Who do we think we are to treat Earth the way we do.

Stormrider

Developing my personal style

Image 14/20 – Stormrider… this one is pushing my style series to its limits. A black and white integration did not work. Background – no… foreground – no… stormrider – no…so I decided to allow some exceptions in my style. What do you think?

Vanished into Gold

Image 13/20 – Vanished into Gold… another composition of my “Fiction Series”. If the weather is bad… rain and storm over here… again… I connect my WACOM tablet and start painting in Photoshop. I’d rather be out in the landscape. Maybe tomorrow…

Image 12/20 – Fields of Gold… sunset in the forest nearby. The trees created a pattern of golden sunlight on the leaves of the woodland floor. You can’t feel how cold and windy it was that day. But may be you can see it.

Image 11/20 – Hansel and Gretel taken by Surprise… I was surprised to find this old barn at the lake near to where I live. I never walked this road before. But I definitely will visit this place again.

Dancing with Birds

Develop my personal style

Image 10/20 – Dancing with Birds… an image of my “Fiction Series”. It is created from 2 different images. A puppet of a fashion show in Frankfurt and an image of Schillig, a sea resort in the National Park Wadden Sea in North Germany. I think dancing with birds is a good start of the coming long weekend.

Stepping on new ground…

… after 1 week and weekend full of new photograhy projects I first want to apologize for no or late replies to your comments and for no feedback to your recent posts.
Taking photographs of horses and dogs fills up a Lightroom folder very quickly. 500 images per shoot are the default, not the exception. Reviewing these images, selecting the “good” ones and doing basis adjustments in LR turns long days into long nights. The hit ratio at day 1: 50%, day 2: 70% day 3: 40% (bad weather) and finally the weekend: 80%. Lesson learned:  a Fuji X-T1 can do the job, especially the new focus features helped a lot. I rented a Fuji 50-140 2.8 lens (70-200 2.8 FF equivalent). Can you do the job without such a lens? NO! Definitely NO! Shutter speeds of 1000-2000 crank up the ISO very quickly to 3600 or 6400. You get a lot of noise. At the end I used the “Manual” mode only. Set the aperture, set the shutter speed and than set the ISO. If you see an image in your electronic view finder it is time to think about single, area or tracking focus and single or burst mode. Continuous focusing is a must. On day 1 I missed nearly every chance of an image. I had to learn very quickly. Another observation: if I want to be successful (means earning money) in this area I need a Canon D1 X II oder Nikon D5 + a 70-200 2.8 prime lens. Now we are talking about 8 to 10K €. It is the only time where gear matters. But so far I am very proud of my Fuji X-T1. Smiles. Reinhold

Rain doesn’t fall on one roof alone

Image 8/20 – Rain doesn’t fall on one roof alone. This image has been taken in the stunning harbour of Hamburg with my Fuji X-T1. The top half of this composition is converted into B&W and the bottom half is without any major modifications.

In Love

RSP - Reinhold Staden Photography - In Love
Develop my personal style
Image 7/20 – In Love… storchs in the wetlands. I was lucky the day before. I came to a place packed with storchs. I own no long lens. So I had to go with my 18-55mm zoom hunting the fast flying birds. Used the new focus features of my X-T1 for the first time. It was fun and may be I go back on the weekend. Practice… practice… practice…

The remaining images are dedicated to Amy. I was inspired by her “birds in the air” shots. So I hope I am closing the gap between her skills shooting birds in motion a little bit. She is still master of the game! Go and check out her birdies. 🙂

Bronze Trees

Develop my personal style
Image 6/20 – Do you know this feeling? An awesome tree or a group of trees. And no way to isolate it from the green and dark background? This is always the case in the North of Germany. We have no hills and no trees on top of these hills to ease object separation. I captured this group several times. A few days ago I decided to correct this in Photoshop. It looks a bit “abstract”… but I like it.

Wetland Fog

RSP - Reinhold Staden Photography - Wetland Fog
Develop my personal style

Image 5/20 – This shot has been taken early in the morning in the wetlands. Fuji X-T1 and LEE Filter System to balance the light. This was one of the last shots into the sunlight. I stopped doing that. When I see a nice sunset / sunrise today I take the shot before or after the sun dominates the sky. Or I turn round and take a shot in the opposite direction. The light is much nicer / softer. In this case it still works because of the fog over the wetlands. It is magic to be there at this time of the day.

Winter Storm

RSP - Reinhold Staden Photography - Winter Storm
Develop my personal style

Image 4/20 – An image you might have seen before. I had one shot only. Heavy wind and rain. LEE Filter: ND Grad and Big Stopper. Long exposure: 30 seconds. Used my body and a big umbrella to cover the camera and tripod. Pier was shaking. After this one shot camera and lens and filter were wet. Couldn’t wait to get home to see if I managed to get a decent shot. It fits into my new style. No major adjustments to the image. That’s the reason why I post it again.
